Frequently Asked Questions

Who needs IAB TCF?

Sites that monetize with programmatic ads in the EU, EEA, or UK need IAB TCF. If you do not run programmatic advertising, skip TCF and use the standard banner. This feature covers web and programmatic ad workflows; Consently does not offer a native mobile SDK for in-app TCF.

What is the difference between IAB TCF and Google Consent Mode?

IAB TCF passes the TC String to your ad-tech vendors. Google Consent Mode passes signals to Google tags. Consently keeps the two settings separate, so you enable TCF only if you run programmatic ads.

Can I turn IAB TCF off?

Yes. If you do not run programmatic ads, disable IAB TCF and Consently shows your standard cookie banner instead.

Is Consently a Google-certified CMP?

Consently is certified for Google Additional Consent (AC v2). Its Google CMP Partner listing is pending, so it does not yet carry a full Google CMP Partner badge.

Do I need legal expertise to use Consently?

No legal background is necessary; Consently’s platform and templates are designed to make legal compliance simple, easy, and hassle-free for everyone.

Is IAB TCF mandatory?

IAB TCF is a voluntary framework, not a law. Google requires a certified CMP using IAB TCF to serve personalized ads to EEA and UK users. That makes TCF effectively required for that ad revenue.

What is the TC String?

The TC String is the machine-readable Transparency and Consent String. It encodes each visitor’s per-purpose and per-vendor choices and passes them to your ad vendors.

Which IAB TCF version does Consently support?

Consently supports IAB TCF 2.3. Consently upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3 on April 28, 2026.

Does IAB TCF make my site GDPR-compliant?

No single tool guarantees compliance. IAB TCF helps you meet GDPR and ePrivacy consent requirements for advertising, alongside your banner, scanning, and policies.

Does Consently offer a free trial?

Consently offers a 14-day free trial period for new users so they can evaluate the product before committing to a paid plan.
